Psst. Come here, touch this paper. No, it’s not a cheesy come-on line at a scrapbookers’ convention, I really mean it. Stampin’ Up!’s new Velvet Meadow Designer Series Paper (DSP) is made to be experienced, and from the first touch, it feels absolutely irresistible.
This gorgeous pack includes 12 sheets, two each of six double-sided designs. One side blooms with rich, colorful florals, while the reverse offers soft neutral patterns that are easy to mix, match, and layer. But the true showstopper is the flocked texture on the colorful designs: a velvety detail that turns every handmade card into a little sensory surprise, delighting the eyes as well as the fingertips.
3D Flower Detail
The first cards I made were these two. The paper is so gorgeous that it hardly needs embellishment. So I added a subtle detail by creating 3D flowers. They are surprisingly easy to make and absolutely stunning up close.
While this may not alway be true, you usually get at least two sheets of each design in paper packs, so all you have to do is cut out the same flower from the second sheet of identical paper, and then use Dimensionals to adhere it over the original flower on your card. Voila! You have 3D flowers. (This also works with repeated images on the same sheet of paper, or other elements like stamps or stickers!)
As soon as the viewer is pulled in by the 3D flowers, they notice the soft white flowers beside them and that’s when you can cue the “oohs,” the “aahs,” and a little well-earned admiration for the card maker. Go ahead, take a bow. 😉
So Soft
Similarly, this next card is all kinds of soft, with frilly ribbon and delicate flowers colored with Stampin’ Blends alcohol markers. A pretty hand-colored butterfly takes center stage inside a trio of vibrant pink frames. But once again, the Velvet Meadow paper steals the show the moment you touch those soft white leaves. Ah, delicious!
As a matter of fact, I used the same background paper on this Mother’s Day card, pairing it with Stampin’ Blends-colored flowers and a pretty ribbon for a soft, heartfelt finish.
White Flowers on Green Paper
Ephemera pieces take the spotlight on this next card, but it’s nearly impossible not to touch those white flowers on the green paper and get lost in their softness. A playful flip of the corner lets you show off both sides of this beautiful double-sided design.
Likewise, that same green paper with soft white flowers works here, creating the perfect contrast with the Strawberry Slush pink used throughout. The flowers are made from a light chipboard material, colored with Stampin’ Blends, of course, and finished with a Strawberry Slush ribbon for one more charming touch.
Wild and Bold yet Soothing and Calming
Lastly, I love the wildness of this bold pattern! Those tiny white flowers are flocked, making them an absolute treat to run your fingers over. They feel so soothing and calming, almost like a gentle little massage for your fingertips. This card also features a sentiment created with the new Hot Foiling system from Stampin’ Up!
