Favorite Holiday Movies on Christmas Cards
Celebrate Your Favorite Holiday Movies
As a card maker, I can’t think of a better way to celebrate my favorite holiday movies than with the “Tune In” stamp set and dies from Stampin’ Up! I saw this idea used by several makers online so I will stress this is not my design. But as a Christmas movie and TV lover, I knew I had to make some variation of these cards as soon as I saw them.
Shaky First Attempt
My first version featured “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer” (which I’ve been watching literally my whole life) and was a shaker card. I chose modern colors for a fun, bold look and used some of the stamps and dies from “Iconic Imagery” by Stampin’ Up!
It turned out okay, but I didn’t like the shaker element because it covered too much of what was on the TV. That needed to be the focal point of the card. So I tried again.
Where are you, Christmas?
My next card featured the comedy classic “Elf” because who doesn’t love that movie?! This time I used “Season of Elegance” Designer Series Paper (DSP) and I die cut the television elements in gold foil to match it.
Isn't it Iconic?
Third time’s the charm, right? I needed to use Christmas papers, so I went with the Iconic Celebrations 6×6 DSP. The movie is my personal holiday favorite, the original 1947 version of “Miracle on 34th Street.”
I loved the background DSP! But doing the TV in patterned paper also was just overkill. It blends too much into the background. That was the one change I wanted to make. Hey, what do you think of the antenna? They needed to match the knobs. So I used a white ink gel pen and a Stampin’ Blends alcohol marker. (Real Red)
It's Showtime!
Here are the final two cards. I chose “It’s a Wonderful Life” since it’s such an amazing classic. And in honor of my son, Gus, who I watch this with every year, I chose “A Christmas Story.”
So what do you think? Do you like the final cards? I have to say, I’m very pleased with them and with the overall theme. If last year’s cards were all about Cola Polar Bears, this year’s cards are all about the movies! And I couldn’t be happier about it.
